In an effort to raise the remaining $10,000 required to send the bikes to Kenya, we will be hosting a ‘Soul Singing and Silent Auction’ feel good event on April 5, 2013 at Belgo in Calgary, AB. The evening will be filled with friends, music, food and drink and laughter…and all proceeds will go towards our exceptional cause. A fresh exciting Nashville recording artist, Lyndsey Hoff, will headline the evening of music – (Check out Lyndsey Hoff – Move Video); we intend to keep guests entertained throughout the night with this soulful artist’s line up of original music and classics as well as exciting products and services to bid on in the silent auction.

Itinerary – Kona Bike Tour

May 5, Sunday

Welcome aboard.  Today we depart to catch our flight to London.  Some of us will find it difficult to sleep, but we encourage everyone to have a good rest.  The next several days will be non-stop travelling and touring.

May 6, Monday

We arrive in London at 11:05 am and we will connect for our flight to Nairobi a few hours later at 8:00 pm.  Meals are on your own.

May 7, Tuesday

Arrival into Nairobi is at 6:30 am so we will go straight to the Ole Sereni hotel then for breakfast.  We will then be met by our guides and safaris vans and depart for our stay at the Exotic Hotel in Kericho – the Tea Plantation Capital of Kenya. Our hotel is in the midst of the tea plantation. We will stop for a picnic lunch along the way and see the Great Rift Valley. We hope to arrive at our hotel by 4 pm.  It will be a long drive after a very long flight.

May 8, 9, 10, 11 Wednesday – Saturday

Hopefully everyone is well rested and ready to begin the Kona bike assembling process. Everyone will be an expert after the next 4 days of assembling bikes. 

May 12, Sunday

Today we will bring a lot of joy and happiness as we deliver the Kona bikes to the community. These bikes will be a very positive change, and make life easier for many of the students.

May 13, Monday

Most of the day will be spent traveling to the Masai Mara. Travelling on some rough roads, we arrive in time for a game drive at dusk and set up camp on the outskirts of the game reserve at the Fig Tree Camp. This is an all facility camp with cabins and tents, all within hearing distance of roaring lions and laughing hyenas. The camp river has hippos in it so you will need to be careful.

May 14, Tuesday

Today you will spend your day visiting schools and clinics in the area supported by A Better World.  You will see the students in their traditional Masi outfits and hopefully, you will be able to enjoy a performance they put on for visitors.

May 15, Wednesday

Today is a well deserved day off with an all day game drive through the famous Mara-Serengeti ecosystem,Kenya’s most fascinating reserve. If you are very lucky you will be able to see the BIG FIVE. We will take a picnic lunch and cross into Tanzania– just across the border mark.

May 16, Thursday

If you choose to continue the tour we will fly to the beautiful coastal town of Lamu. Accommodations are at the Kijani House where breakfast in provided but lunch and dinner are on your own. If you choose not to go to Lamu our drivers will drive you back to the Nairobi airport and we will depart for our flight home.

May 17, Friday

We will go to the Lamu School for the Handicapped and visit and play with the children who are always excited to see visitors. It is an adventure just getting to the school, first by boat the by bus.

May 18, Saturday

Today we will soak up the sun and enjoy some Lamu Excursion. A walking tour of this town is always a fun experience where time has stood still and the only mode of transportation is on the back of a Donkey or by boat. This will be our last day before heading home.
